Rekey Locks in Seconds

There are circumstances when it’s best to change your locks either for peace of mind or plain necessity. When a roommate moves out peacefully or you break ties with an abusive mate, it’s important to change your locks. Even if that particular isn’t going to return and put you in a bad situation, you still never know where your house key will end up. It could get into someone else’s hands, and it’s not worth risking a break in. While changing your locks might be common sense to you, it might be something you avoid simply due to the cost. The expense is a valid concern, but a new product from Schlage solves the problem in seconds.
In order for you to change your locks, you either have to replace the lock entirely or have a professional locksmith rekey them. Whichever route you take, it’s going to be a pretty penny. Fortunately, Schlage developed new SecureKey locks and deadbolts that can be rekeyed by homeowners.
So how does it work?
Traditional locks have a pin-and-tumbler system that needs removed in order to rekey them. SecureKeys operate differently in that they have a pick-resistant Grade 1 cylinder and a two-step procedure for rekeying. With this lock system, you receive two cut blue Reset Key. One is used to remove the existing key and the second Reset Key is used to rekey the lock to the new key.
Although it sounds like the lock could be tampered with and your home security could be undermined, Schlage claims that the SecureKey has 10 times more security than a key duplication or comparable rekeying systems that are available.
A rekeyable system such as this one is definitely convenient, because regardless of the circumstance, you can change your lock immediately and within seconds. Just knowing that you have that option available to you can give you some peace of mind.
