Security Gadgets on the Market Today
Okay, security (whether we're talking home security or personal security and defense) isn't exactly a topic that should make you feel gleefully child-like, but it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. Technology is putting a lot of new gadgets on the market in the home security sector. Some of them are even useful. Let's take a look at what's out there:
Spy Finder Video Camera Detector:
I love the idea of this one. It's a small gadget that fits easily in your hand, and it's programmed
to detect when hidden cameras are being used in the area. Carry this with you, and you won't have any need
to wonder if creepy creeps are filming you. The unit can locate wired or wireless spy and pinhole cameras,
dead or alive, with a range up to 30 feet. It'll cost you about $100: http://www.startechoutlet.com/product_396_detailed.htm
Keyless/Biometric Entry Systems:
Just as you punch a PIN into the ATM to get your money out, you can throw away
your cumbersome door locks and get keyless entry systems for your home
doors. Also available are locking mechanisms that open to a fingerprint or
thumbprint. These tools are great for their convenience--you can never get
locked out of the house. Several systems are available at Amazon.com, and
these locks will usually cost $200-$400 (be wary about paying much less--you get
what you pay for):

Laser Trip Wire:
This one is really just for fun (I don't think it's quite sturdy enough to set
up a perimeter around the house.). Using a few devices, you can set up a
perimeter around your desk or your room or whatever, which is monitored by an
invisible laser. An alarm goes off if it's tripped. The laser gadget
is available for $25:
