Beer Burglar Alarm Protects Your Favorite Beverage

beer alarmOkay, this is obviously a just-for-fun “burglar” alarm and not a serious home security tool (unless you’re very serious about protecting the beers you’ve claimed for yourself).

The beer burglar alarm attaches to your can, then delivers a short, sharp, shock to anyone who tries to grab it. It even has a motion sensor to detect would-be drink thieves on the approach, and it goes off if anyone comes within 30 cm of the can. You can choose what audio you want to sound from a mafia-esque voice growling “Keepa da hands off ma beer” or a simple banshee-like siren that will alert everyone in the house as to what’s going on (God forbid, you bump the can on your way to the tomato juice).

It’s not clear how the device distinguishes thief from owner though. I have a feeling it’s going to go off no matter who grabs the beer can. Still, it could be a fun gift for a beer lover.

Door Stop Burglar Alarm for Dorm Security

door stop alarmHere’s an interesting little security gadget I found over at Amazon (is there anything in the world they don’t have?). The Super Door Stop Alarm is a 118 dB security alarm that you tuck behind any door. If somebody tries to come in while you’re home (and have the door stop in place), the wedge-shaped gadget (which has a non-skid pad on the bottom) will prevent the door from opening. It will also sound a piercing alarm to scare off intruders and alert you to the fact that someone was trying to get in.

Obviously, this isn’t a whole home type of security system, nor is it enough to really keep you and your belongings safe (for one thing, you’d only be able to use it when you’re home, otherwise the alarm would keep you out too), but I could see it being a nice gift for a college student living in the dorms. Petty theft on campus is more commonplace than you’d like to think, and other crimes can also be a danger too. Something like this alarm could make you feel a little safer in your dorm room.
