Remote Security Cameras

There are various technologies now available to secure your home. Some people just go with solid doors and locks (both for doors and windows), but others are more comfortable knowing security cameras also monitor their premises. Remote security cameras can be a great part of a home surveillance system.

You can order complete setups, but you can also build and install systems from scratch.

What You Need to Build a Remote Security Camera System

To put together a system of your own from scratch, you'll need one or more cameras (you can do indoor or outdoor units or both) with mounts/housings and lenses (sometimes these need to be purchased independently of the camera), a power supply, a coax cable (if you don't want to deal with cables, check into wireless systems), and a monitor. If you want to be able to record with video add a VCR (time lapse or real time) or a digital recorder and (if you want to put more than one camera on the tape) a video processor. But these days, you might want to check into internet security cameras. This is where true remote access comes in.

Internet-enabled security cameras allow you to use your PC to do the recording, and if you like the idea of remote control, with a networked camera you can pan, zoom, tilt, etc. from a computer across the world (or at the office).

Cameras can be triggered (i.e. by motion or heat) to take pictures or set to automatically take pictures at specific intervals of time, say once every 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. The latter provides a time-lapse effect when viewing targeted activity over the course of several hours or each day. Remote security cameras also enable the user to obtain pictures or images from remote sites or locations with maximum ease.

A remote security camera offers a user plenty of peace of mind. The fact that you have the ability to access your camera even while you are away from your property is a major relief. Furthermore, if you are away, have valuables at home and no other family members at home you have the option of checking occasionally by accessing the remote security camera system for your own reassurance that everything is safe.
