Wireless Security Systems--What Are They Made Of?

Wireless home security systems can be relatively simple or quite complex depending on the number of features you opt for. To help you start brainstorming, here are a few of the commoner components of wireless security systems:
  • Control Panel-- No matter what system you choose, it will have a master control panel. People usually choose to locate it somewhere convenient since it controls all the operations of the home security system.
  • Sensors & Transmitters--Sensors detect changes in the surrounding environment (such as someone trying to enter the premises) and through the use of transmitters, they then send a wireless signal via radio waves to the control panel where the receiver is housed. Sensors are typically placed at doors and windows.
  • Touchpads--Remote touchpads allow users to operate the security system when they are not next to the control panel and are typically installed at convenient places around the house.
  • Central Monitoring Receiver--These are often used in conjunction with monitored alarm systems and will be hooked up to the telephone line.
  • Sirens--Sirens are often employed for scaring away intruders.
  • Lamp Modules--Many people employed light timers as part of a security system; these serve to trick a would-be burglar into thinking someone is at home, thus acting as a deterrent.
